I believe we all think or deliberate about things, issues, ideas and matters, and when you do, how do you know that you have thought through things well enough? Do you feel a sense of satisfaction, for example, or you reach a point where you simply cannot go further in anything? Place this especially in the context of practical philosophy, where your thoughts are supposed to influence the way you go about doing things in life.

I sometimes don't think at all. I trust my instincts and often just go with gut feeling. More often than not I am ok. I am the kind of person if I deliberate I will never come to a decision. I often sit down and dissect something that has happened and work out why it happened, and then think would I have done it any differently? Often I think I could have approached it differently but in reality I know that I would have done exactly the same again. I am an impulsive person and I love to live with a little bit of excitement.

As a chess player, I (try to) think of all the possibilities and weigh the pros and cons of each possibility in order to make the final decision. I often am not satisfied with where I am b/c I haven't pushed enough to explore all the things that I could. This perfectionist view also applies when I'm writing an English paper and exploring a motif in a book: I tend not to accept my initial ideas and keep pushing, probing, and questioning until I find some ultimate beauty within the text that makes sense. There is 6th sense that you just know when you've found the thing you wanted, because it matches up to the greats' works. For example, I read articles by pro writers and college professors' research essays to get a sense of the depth of analysis I should do in order to thoroughly analyze a motif present w/in a work of literature. I know that I have reached a point of satisfaction when my analysis closely resembles theirs in depth and logic.

No such assurances are true. The world is a world of infinite complexity. But decisions have to be made. One thinks things through as best one can in the time allotted, and moves on with a decision. With practice, one can get to the oint where one thinks things through better than the next guy, and that's usually enough to stay out of trouble.

Philosophy does not have an influence on how I go about my life. Understanding the principals that are laid out in the Bible are what I go by to have the best life possible. So, having said that, I seek wisdom through the Word and prayer and God lets me know His intentions.

We each have our own individual styles of thinking things through, many people like to sleep on things that aren't clear to them. This is something that I do.

Otherwise, I externalise complex things onto paper, helping me give a more organised evaluation. I also have to set boundaries, so that I'll not waste time needlessly on something trivial.

Our beliefs do affect our outcomes in life, with everything from health to our relations with others. It's good therefore to reevaluate anything that's aligned anymore to who I think am today.

Just some thoughts on me, really. Good luck! Rob

You dont, you believe you have thought it through, thats why when you carry out what you just thought through, it seems strange and you are uncertain of the actions youre takeing!

I constantly keep checking with the facts as I understand them. When my understanding alters, I check to see if this changes my thinking on a subject.
