Night life in downtown Detroit does exist! Try checking out the Greektown area. You can check for shows at the Opera House, Gem Theatre, or The Fox Theatre. Sporting events at Joe Louis Arena. There are good bars/clubs downtown, and some very good restaurants. Seldom Blues (renaissance center) and Sweet Georgia Brown (Greektown) are upscale with southern food. Both have jazz some nights. There is a Hard Rock cafe at the Compuware building with Motown memorabilia, and across from that there is ice skating in the park. Have fun!

Here are a few ideas:

Detroit Institute of Arts
Detroit Science Center (Our Body Exhibit is on display currently)
Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village
Windsor is nice to visit, but the border crossing can be a hassle (bring Birth Cert and Photo ID or Passport).
Shop in Birmingham or at Somerset Mall in Troy
Take a scenic drive along Lakeshore Dr. in Grosse Pointe or around Belle Isle Park

Windsor is a blast, but make sure you bring proof of citizenship- a driver's license isn't proof of citizenship, a voter's registration card or birth certificate is. I'm not sure if they've initiated their rules that you must have a passport yet or not.

There are also some great malls, Great Lakes Crossing is a huge attraction in Auburn Hills. Their website is: http://www.shopgreatlakescrossing.com

What kind of things interest you? There's a great museum to learn about our automotive history, Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village: http://www.hfmgv.org/

Windsor, Canada is just over the bridge. There is a nice park along the water there as well as a hopping night life, casino, etc. The Tigers are at home April 2-5.

If you go want to Canada make sure you bring your Birth certificate or a passport. Customs has been getting strict lately.
