That is appalled by the spelling, grammer, punctuation and just plain old sentence structure? Sometimes I can't even understand what some people are saying! What are we paying teachers for? It appears that school is a waste of time! My son (26) is the same way. I complained to the school system and was told-- don't worry, by the time he graduates, everyone will have "spell check". HA!!

No you are not the only one. My Mama used to call out my spelling words until I spelled them correctly. She helped me with my English. As a result of this I made A+s all the way through school. This was back in the fifties. The teachers were a lot more through and supportive-not to say some teachers of today aren't but teaching is not the same and neither are most parents.

I know what you mean.I have been teaching my fourteen year old grammar, spelling and penmanship for the last month or so.Apparently, the schools system didn't think these were necessary skills as he is a B average student.

Recently,I happened to look over his shoulder as he was doing homework, and was appalled at what I was seeing.

Not only can I not read the vast majority of what he writes because his penmanship is so awful, what I can decipher is almost always misspelled and written in such a manner that saying his writing suffers from a lack of grammar and syntax won't even begin to describe it.

I have been remiss, but I am working with him to repair these
problems that his teachers apparently don't care about.

I do agree with you totally. Younger people just can't spell. Could it be because the computer offers a spell check, grammar check and God knows what else kind of checks that these younger generations are just not bothered to learn? And, when I correct my sons, they both will tell me not to worry.

My grand daughters 3rd grade teacher would not correct her for her penmanship(Which my daughter and I thought was appalling and told her so) The teacher said as long as I can read it that's all that matters....... We're better off teaching our own children.

Well, I am 26, and I also get aggravated by some of the questions and answers on here. I wish they had a special teen issues section. That would solve alot of issues.

Please don't blame the teachers. We are forced to pass everyone and unless the kids get good grades we are harrassed. It's all about the grades now. Teachers are totally opposed to giving A's for poor work but our voices are ignored.
