Very much so! It's called 'peer pressure'.
That's why so many teens die in car crashes - their friends encourage foolish driving. Also why they smoke, shoplift, binge drink and other risky activities; so they 'fit in' with their friends.

As an adult, I curse whenever i feel like it. Think about it really what does the f word mean? nothing. It is a verbal outlet for expressing frustration, anger, dissappointment etc. I have seen people substitute shoot or freak for the respective 4 letter words but what's the difference? nothing. Whether you use the 4 or 5 letter word you are doing the same thing, expressing some kind of emotion. If people choose to be offended by it, that's their choice. I try not to curse around children or at formal work environments because as much as i love to curse and as much as i know that i have every right to, i do not want to loose my job and if parents want to teach their kids not to use the 4 letter word, that's fine. I wouldn't want to do anything to disrupt that

Most people curse(when not angry or upset) because they lack a better word to use. People that lack a large vocabulary tend to curse when they can't think of a better word to describe their feelings.
I'm not sure that foul language is something that kids feel a lot of peer pressure to use but they are more likely to use it to feel like they're a part of the group.

It takes more of a grown up person not to curse than just to go along with the crowd.

They think it makes them look older. It also may be a product of the home environment.
