i want to know how the peruvian guinea pigs look like when they are still young, are their hair start short at first like american guinea pigs then go long as they get old? or their hair are long as it is when they were born?
please help me.........tnx!

I have'nt kept one of those for years...all I remember is that they make a loud squeaky noise.

You can usually tell because even though their hair starts out short, there will be a part running down the pig's back. I got a peruvian as a pup. He had short hair, but a definite natural part. Sure enough, a few months later he had long flowing hair. Beautiful!

I don't know anything about specific breeds of guinea pigs but I do know that.. brace yourself, this is hard news... in Peru, they call them "cui" and they are a food item. Consequently, there may not be much concern for them being purebred stock. You can get very good books on guinea pigs by fancy breeders at your local petsmart store.

Yes, their hair gets longer as they grow. Check this site out it has all kinds of guinea pigs.
