That would be me, and people like you drive me bananas at work. Just because I don't talk to you doesn't mean I don't like you or that I think I'm better than you. Insecurity and low self esteem are unbecoming in coworkers, and generally that's the kind of person that's going to take offense to someone less chatty. What you think of me doesn't matter. What the boss thinks of me does, and you should focus on what the boss thinks of you, too, rather than your coworkers.

Yes, we have a very quiet person in our office. He is the only male. I think he is just shy. He is a very nice person, but not too many people take the time to talk to him.
He is very intelligent, and whenever there is a computer problem, he knows exactly what to do. He has saved us a lot of calls to the IT department.

Yes we hired a SHY person. Talk to this person, when they get to know people they will come out of their shell. Don't just ignore a person because they are shy. They need friends just like outgoing people to. Don't fault someone for being shy. When shy people get to know everyone, they will might suprise you and be the life of a party. Talk to this person, they will come around.

I feel the need to befriend them because maybe they are shy, depressed, or just feel like they don't fit in with the "group" or clique but it depends on the work setting. They may just be very focused on the job and are oblivious to the fact that they are coming across as shy or worse, aloof.

1: Maybe they are just a bit shy..

I think he/ she could be just too sick and tired of having to entertain the people around him/ her that, he/ she does not want to waste time talking to anybody.
