it is reflection of "disrepect" about American kids nowadays. Kids used to call their dads "Old Man".
However, this also reflects the family value in America. It is losing more and more every dayl

Homer is lucky. My son calls me "Dummy."
It all started back when he was just little (he is now 27 and a Master chemist). I had been a big fan of Sanford and Son when I was a kid and subsequently called my son "dummy" in a joking and playful way. Being one who always had a playful sense of humor, he immediately began returning the compliment.
Obviously, I have tremendous respect for his accomplishments and I know he feels the same about me. Yet, to this day, I address all correspondence to him with "Dummy" and he responds in kind.

From the time he was a baby learning to talk, they tried to get him to say "dad". His act of rebellion was to call him Homer.
