Like I've been watching a lot of old movies and these actors are 500 times better than the acting today. Like you couldn't even compare them on the same level. (eg. Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, James Dean, Vivene Leigh and a few others)

But when you look up on Wikipedia all of them had psychiatric issues, health problems, were alcoholics or drug addicts and had sexuality issues. I wonder if being a little crazy helped make them good actors.

Maybe what's written about them is way out of proportion and inaccurate? It's kind of sad if its true.

How great to find someone who really likes the old movies!! I guess it all boils down to the fact that most creative people can be a little 'nuts' or more sensitive to things in life than the average person; that's what makes them so special...as for today's crop of so called 'stars'..they sure have their drug problems, many marriages, etc...but they sure have no glamor or star power like the old timers did!! ah, the old days are gone!!!!!!!!

A lot of the older actors did have a lot of those problems. I think it had to do with the fact that they were in the eras of smoking was the "it" thing to do, or everyone who is anyone drinks. Some of the ones with psychiatric issues, I think was that some of them were born with it, but we did not know about those problems yet or did not know how to control them yet. I think some of them went crazy due to the drugs and alcohol. In the golden age of Hollywood, medicine was just not where it is today, and if possible people would just overcome their health issues and do what they wanted. I don't think it is as bad today, but I know that all those problems are still there. Some actors just don't know how to deal so they turn to drugs or alcohol. Those who do have mental or health problems have some of the best doctors and medcine to keep them sane and as healthy as possible. I don't know if it made them better actors back then due to their issues, or if it was just as they say the best time in Hollywood. The Golden Age of Hollywood was amazing and better than it has ever been, and why, the world may never know.

I think entertainers of any kind have, to some extent, an overactive desire for acceptance and adoration, and actors, at some point in their career, have to deal with multiple personality disorder. But to be fair, while the quality of entertainment and entertainers has dropped, the personal problems of todays entertainers are just as bad, if not worse, than they ever were.

Many of the new actor/actresses have many problems too.... we just won't hear about them until they are dead.
