I have an idea for a recipe book that is directed towards adults who have learning difficulties, or for those who can't cook etc. Where do i start with it? It's following a format i already use in my teaching, but i feel there has to be a bigger audience.

Hey Red Sticks,

Here are some sites that represent publishing advice, agents, organizations, education, and many self-publishing methods. I cannot recommend any one in particular. I recommend that you read a lot about it before you make a decision. If anyone wants money up front, that is a sign - stay away. Good luck.

Sounds like a possible, and obviously you're qualified which is always a good start.

For this type of thing you need to a description and outline of the book -- you don't have to write it in advance as you would for a novel.

Are you in the UK? If so you need to get a copy of the Writers and Artists Yearbook and/or the Writers Handbook. The latter has more contacts but the former has more useful articles.

Read up on how to present your idea professionally. Write your outline and approach agents, for something like this you would need an agent, you can't go directly to publishers.

An agent will take you on if he thinks he can sell the concept, if you are rejected it probably means there's no market -- or, at least, the industry doesn't think there is, therefore there isn't.

(Word to the wise: Any "agent" who wants *any* money up-front for whatever reason is a con artist, reject instantly.)

Hope it works out. Good luck.

Perhaps you should contact a literary agent who has experience in developing and selling this kind of project? The Writers' and Artists' Handbook, and The Writers' Guide, are annual publications that you should be able to find in your local library. They have lists of literary agents and their specialisms.

A good agent will help you develop your project and sell it to publishing houses.

It sounds like a really great idea, and if you already teach in this format, so much the better. Good luck!

You start by laying out and writing your book..... When you have completed it, take it to a publisher who will decide if there is a market for it....Take his/Her advise from there on.... Good Luck....
