It depends on your definition of animal.
1. any member of the kingdom Animalia, comprising multicellular organisms that have a well-defined shape and usually limited growth, can move voluntarily, actively acquire food and digest it internally, and have sensory and nervous systems that allow them to respond rapidly to stimuli: some classification schemes also include protozoa and certain other single-celled eukaryotes that have motility and animallike nutritional modes.
2. any such living thing other than a human being.
3. a mammal, as opposed to a fish, bird, etc.
4. the physical, sensual, or carnal nature of human beings; animality: the animal in every person.
5. an inhuman person; brutish or beastlike person: She married an animal.
If we look at definition number one then people would be animals; however, definition number two directly rules out people and definition number five only includes some people.
The question is not if people are animals but does the word animal define everything about a person. I don't think so. I believe there are things unique to a human that aren't present in the other animals. These are the very things that make us a person. Our will, our mind (not brain), our soul are all things that are either more developed than other animals or none existent in other animals.
In short humans are animals but more than just animals by definition one.

Well from a zoological definition, absolutely. There are only 2 high level life kingdoms from which to choose. Animal or Plant. I know some people act like they are a vegetable when they are impaired but even then they are members of the animal kingdom. Its not an opinion, its a scientific fact based on classification of life forms.

In our world, there are two kinds of organisms
-Animalia(animals)
-Plantae(plants)
In Fact! Humans are SCIENTIFICALLY animals. We are under Phylum Chordata(chordates), Class mammalia(mammals). In some documentaries, it is explained that we are the "lucky apes".
Additional Info..
It is explained that back then, the ancestors who got hold of good food (cooking it) will develop better. More nutrition means the development of the brain, and that's what some how happened to our evolutionary line. You would see the difference that we didn't exactly came from the line of the apes since the spinal cord of the apes are connected to the back area of the cranium( this prevents them from standing straight). As for our line, our spines are connected to the base of the skull(allows us to stand straight).
Yes! we are animals.

Of course we are...the most feared by all animals...sad but true. I would consider it a compliment if someone called me an animal...animals behave much better than humans do. I've worked with abandoned & abused animals for over 30 years...never once have I seen an ungrateful animal....but I've met many an ungrateful person.

Yes. There is animal, vegetable and mineral...
While there are a few vegetables out there and some people are dumb as a rock, most of us fall under the animal category.

It is PROVEN that we share 99% of our genes with apes, and id be pretty surprised if that was just a coincidence. Im a christian, believe we are the pinnacle of Gods creation, but believe we are animals NONTHELESS!!!
