My sister went on bed rest not too far into her pregnancy either.
I sent her coloring books with crayons, colored pencils, & markers. I know this sounds very elementary, but many people find coloring soothing.
Also, I sent her word finds, crossword puzzles, & suduko puzzles. (Those are math/addition puzzles that are pretty popular now.)
If your cousin is a reader, you may want to get her a few books or magazines.
My sister is a computer junkie. We got permission to bring a laptop with wireless internet to the hospital for her.
She also is into latchhook stitching and cross stitching. We got her some small projects and larger ones too. Those ended up passing the time for her.
If your cousin likes video poker or gaming, you can usually get portable gaming devises cheeply at walmart. IPods & PSPs can play music and movies too. the PSP can play games.
Mostly though, my sister enjoyed visits. We tried to make sure that someone went to see her every day and we tried to bring her approved nonhospital food as often as possible. If non of the kids were sick, we brought them. Something about children brightens up people that are sick... or just down.
If your cousin lives too far away to visit, you can make it a point to call her frequently instead.
By the way, my sister had miscarried before. She was considered high risk, esp since she was carrying monoamniotic twins and had very high blood pressure. My nephews are healthy and active now. Your cousin will be too. I hope all goes well for you, her, & the baby. I will say a prayer for ya'll.

I was on bedrest for 15 weeks, and it sucks!! All the items you listed are great. You can add books, possibly a subscription to netflix (if she has a DVD player in the bedroom). I would highly recommend getting a tv and dvd player in the bedroom. My aunt sent me a learn to crochet and knit book along with some yarn and the appropriate needles. I made several washcloths (even though they aren't very good :). You can also send some snacks....is your cousin allowed out of bed to eat? If not, she'll need some snacks to keep near her bed. It's so nice to send her a package, but just remember that her pregnancy is going to be long......keep sending things (even if it's just a letter), the days get boring and they go slow.

Your right, she probably will go crazy by the end of the 9 months. Your ideas sound really good. Later after she finds out what she is having you may want to get her a scrapbook with all kinds of supplies so she can make her own baby book. Also, DVD's, a mini fridge kept next to her bed so she can get something to eat or drink while she's on bed rest, magazines, books you think she would like, a book about baby names, etc. Sounds like you are on the right track. Hope this helps.

if she has a laptop (that'd be another great gift!) you ought to check out some of the simulation games available now. They're only about $40+. I work as a social worker with disabled people and this is their favorite way of feeling like they have an active life even if they are in a wheelchair, or on bedrest, or whatever. There are also free on-line games where you create an avatar and then basically interact with other people (avatars) on line. You can go out dancing, go to church, go to a lecture - it is AMAZING and it really improves the quality of life for people who can't get out of the house!

okay crossword puzzels, wordsearches....those of the such are fantastic. so are magazines and books. a few good movies do FABUOUS too. is she crafty?? can she needlepoint? a cross stitch or another embroidery piece can keep her buzy for a while...or maybe she'd like to learn to knitt or crochet....get her intsructions/supplies. anything that is PRODUCTIVE is a real winner. i would have to say, phonecalls are a HUGE help too. does she have a laptop with internet capabilities?? that helps too. some good snacky food is good too!
i wish your cousin luck...hopefully she will not have to be on bedrest the WHOLE time...it may only have to be for the first few months!

Instead of sending her anything, why not go to her home (if possible) and ask if there's anything she needs done. Her home will need attention. She may need some meals cooked. The puzzles are a good idea, but I think she would appreciate the other more. Good luck! :)

I was on bedrest too and yes it can depress you and drive you insane. Besides what you mentioned , a couple of movies, a book ( a baby names book) and a book called What to Expect While your Expecting would keep her busy a while,, some magazines, maybe even a scrapbook and the items needed to decorate it, so she can make something for her baby

Some good books, and maybe a hand held game. Oh, and maybe she could start the scrap books for her baby, you could also giver a journal to write about her pregnancy in.
