You didn't say if this is social studies or science or what, so I'm going to pick some current event type topics.
Why not do a study on what the promises were made by the student council last year and what they accomplished?
Maybe do a study on smoking in middle school?
How long kids study each night, and whether the time they put into it has any relationship to what kind of grades they get?

do a analysis of your favorite movie, I am doing that for my senior paper with the movie Back to the Future. I get to have fun doing it, by watching good movie scenes, and im using the whole series, so its fun instead of watching one of the movies over and over again. There are sites with quotes, etc.
talk about a hobby you have
talk about the most fun moments you had in ur life, for me, it was going to Switzerland and on spring break, I'm going to Greece, lol.
Just have fun!

You might consider comparing different kinds of rechargeable (or for that matter, single-use) batteries for consumer electronics like digital cameras, mp3 players, and portable disc players.
If you need additional material, discuss the relationship between AC and DC power and how one can be converted into the other.
