A = "Against" and F = "For"

'For' is the number of goals that the team has scored in that competition

'Against' is the number of goals that have been scored against them by other teams; i.e. goals conceded.

subtracting the goals 'against' from the goals 'for' i.e. F - A
gives you the 'goal difference' usually seen in tables as "GD"
this is used to determine teams' position in the table when two teams have the same number of points.
the larger your goal difference the better. if a team concedes more goals than they score the GD will be a negative number.
e.g. F = 6; A = 15
GD = -9

hope this helped

All I can think is F goals scored for...A goals scored against. These figures are used to calculate the goal difference to get the correct league position when teams are level on points..

a for how many goals have been scored against you in the season, f for how many goals you have scored this season. you then take the against goals from the for goals to get the goal difference - this is used if there is a draw in the table positioning.

F= For, meaning goals scored
A= Against, meaning goals let in

If you take away A from F, you get goal difference

F is For as in goals scored FOR your team
A is Against as in goals scored AGAINST your team.
This is used to divide people on the same number of points
