Heres a few I have been to and would recommend
Rome, Sorrento, Venice, Florence in Italy
Paris, Marseille, Chamonix in France
Bruges in Belgium
Amsterdam in Netherlands
Galway in Ireland
Also I have heard great things about reykjavik in Iceland,
Copenhagen in Denmark, Prague in the Czech Republic and Athens in Greece
ireland is a lovely country but i would say that as I am born and bred there, Finland and especially Norway are wonderful countries too.

Having lived in Italy for 1 1/2 years and traveled Europe extensively... First there is no where like Italy .. you should go to Italy and there you need to go to three of your 5 cities..( Italy for it's museum and architecture , and artwork (Florence , Rome and Venice) ... Germany is full of wonderful friendly people and has the most magnificent castles ( ( , Rhine or Berlin) and Switzerland for it's beauty (Zurich) ..it is a small country ..pristine with flowers on every corner...and the mountains and A frames ... the bakeries in Europe especially Germany are magnificent ... If you can take a month .. and go and enjoy all ...

although there are several more that you ought to try to visit...it's hard to only pick 5 since even smaller places like Bruges, Nice, or Innsbruck have their charm...

My opinion:
Beautiful cities:
1. Barcelona
2. Seville
3. Prague
4. Basel
5. Berlin
Countries
1. Spain (away from the beaches)
2. Germany (very diverse, love Bavaria)
3. France (the Alsace and Provance)
4. Italy (more the mountinous North)
5. Austria
Greatest thing is they are all so different, and so close.
Barcelona is my #1 city... so much to see and do... the diversity and charm it still commands.

5. Paris,France but minus all the dirty streets,the place can look pretty good in the night. lol love the small, old streets.
