First of all, oil will turn black five minutes after it's in the motor, it's just a fact of life with the 240D. Because of the high soot load, it's best to change oil at 2500 mile intervals on this car.
My advice would be to go to a dealer or independent Mercedes specialist. You want to steer clear of Jiffy Lube places. There are a coupld of reasons why. You need to use a Diesel-specific motor oil, like Shell Rotella, Mobil Delvac, or Chevron Delo. These oils have extra anti-wear additives that are needed for the higher pressures encountered in Diesel motors. In addition, most quick oil change places have no experience with cannister filters. While the filter swap itself is simple, they won't know that the filter O-rings need to be replaced, and certainly wouldn't stock them.
If you want your regular mechanic to do the oil change, it's not rocket science as long as he minds the above two points. You can buy the filters very cheaply by mail order, and supply them to him. A cheap source is http://www.Rockauto.com
You can find a good tutorial on this job here:

I can change your oil.Cheap.But you've gotta come to my place.Bucharest, Romania. If not, do it yourself. The filter is inside the large iron tube on the left side of the engine, somehow under the brake pump.Remove the cover, watch out for the o-rings, remove the filter then reinstall the cover and the big o-ring that seals it.Then add 1/2 gallon of diesel fuel to the oil already in engine and start it.Let it run for 5 min. Then drain it.Reinstall the screw under the engine, at the drainhole, then add 1 gallon of some cheap engine oil and a gallon of diesel fuel.Again.Start it for 5 min.Again.Don't worry about the oil pressure. It will be a little low.Drain the whole stuff once again, install the oil filter and his sealing o-rings, fill with 6.5 liters of 15W40 (I use 20W50 for higher pressure), then you are ready to go.And your new oil will not turn black in 15 minutes. This is the way I change the oil to my cars. And I have 16 cars, 6 Mercs among them. But I am very patient.

I had a 240D once. Awesome car. Too bad it went 0-60 in a weekend, though. Anyway, the oil will look black almost instantaneously after you change it. That's normal. The oil filter is located on the driver's side of the engine in a rather large looking canister. When you buy the filter, check to make sure that is has a small package with some o-rings and a copper (or aluminum) washer. Cheap filters don't have these and it's important that they do. I'd do it yourself, if I were you. Wally World will probably forget to put oil in it and Stiffy Lube will only screw you on the price. (By the way, the o-rings are for the filter canister and washer is for the oil pan bolt.) And like everyone else here said, make sure the oil you use is rated for diesel engine use.
Enjoy your 240D! It may be slow, but it makes up for it in durability!

You should goto the dealer, as they know the car best. Or you could goto an independent Mercedes shop. Do NOT goto a quick lube or even walmart for oil changes on this car, as it's diesel and an import on top of that. A lot of those high end imports like these have other routine maintenance that need to be done along with an oil change, as other systems on the car are different than a regular car.

umm... maybe the dealership or a really good mechanic and you don't want to do it yourself and mess something up since you just bought it.
