My low mileage (46K) Jaguar V12 suddenly stopped changing up from 1st gear (it's an automatic - I think a GM300 box as used in Cadilacs of the time). Can anyone suggest why this might be? athe auto-transmission fluid level is fine. I'm very worried about it as the car is much bigger than my wallet, if you know what I mean !

I'm not sure if it could be related but it stopped changing gear after I opened the bonet and flexed a rubber bellows thing at the top of the engine, and also manually clicked a micro-switch which is attached to the throttle cable, again at the top of the engine. Slapped wrist for tampering!

PLEASE HELP !!!!!!V!!!!!!

It should have a three speed automatic TH 400 I would say the vaccuum modulator hose came off it. this would keep it from shifting, check engine side and/or transmission modulator.

Try a "re-set" by disconnecting the positive battery cable for five minutes or so, then reconnect and fire the motor let the engine warm for a few minutes, then give it a go.

If not effective, do you notice any unusal "clunking" when changing from park to drive? Then, it is probably loose bands int the AT- a visit to a good shop will be needed.

if the gears are working when manualy selected then possibly the problem is that the throttle pressure is not being directed to the modulator valve.check for any any disconected vacume pipes and bad connections.the micro switch you refer to is relative to the kick down
