Curtis B no one thinks your goverment were responsible, the pilots were they fired their weapons after they were told to confirm that the targets were Iraqi vehicles. They didn't do that they just went ahead and fired.Just 2 days ago US military killed 5 Iraqi policemen at a checkpoint,a statement says they are sorry. At some time surely somebody should be held to account. We read in our papers that the 2 pilots concerned in the "friendly fire" are going back to Iraq lets hope they are not so gung ho this time.

Friendly fire is terrible and regrettable, but sometimes happen in the chaos of war. To sit there and blame governments for the accidents of a few individual soldiers shows ignorance of arrogance toward military personnel of all nations and their operations.

Think about this for a second. If a driver from, say England, accidently hits and kills someone over here in the states because they aren't used to driving on the right side of the road, should the UK pay restitution? Should your PM be held accountable for this person's actions? Of course not. He would be held accountable, but so are servicemen who commit fratricide.

The US hate being wrong, hence they are very discreet when mistakes are made, but 9 out of 10 times their errors are released into the media limelight. The UK, however, would not be as discreet and confess to the misjudgements made if you like, but would not reprimand those involved most of the time. (Take Jean Charles de Menezes for example.)

Hope this helps.

No cos the USA would be demanding the UK troops involved be extradited to face trial and if guilty the death penalty.

Talk about double standards.

The Americans can do no wrong, they see themselves as leaders of the World and like to dictate what is right and wrong. They will not allow anybody to disagree with their view and lie and cheat to maintain their position.
