All you need to do is go to Wikipedia then search for (the subject, eg. marijuana). Everything you need is there.

The required length of your essay will have a bearing on its content, but I will assume that it is the standard classic five paragraph paper: intro; body (3 paragraphs) and conclusion. I would structure the paper like this:
In your intro discuss the history of cannibas and hemp, its medical, spiritual and material uses. But also intro its controversial side.
Then in your three paragraph body detail in the first paragraph its history (where, when, why); ancient Egypt, India and SE Asia. In the second paragraph include the physiological effects (brain and body). Don't focus only on the negative or positive. Make it objective. What is really going on in one's body when they smoke or eat marijuana? In your final paragraph maybe write about its place in the modern world in three or four different societies, say U.S., Netherlands and an Asian country like India or Thailand.
Your conclusion should summarize a major point from each of your body's paragraph. Do not introduce any new ideas in your conclusion!
Some say there are few things in this world that I do well, but I have completed two degrees and written dozens and dozens of essays. The format I outlined above served me well. A couple of other hints? . . . be clear; don't be wordy. Also, vary your sentence lengths and types. Research credible sources . . . stay away from the internet unless you really have to use it. Don't just punch in "marijuana" and take the first site Google pukes up. Also, avoid Wikipedia. It is way down on the reliability list.
Writing is a skill far too many of us do not take seriously or work hard enough at. Good luck with this. You have been assigned or chosen a fascinating and relevant topic,

1. Carry out a research on your topic so that when you start writing, you will not be rumour mongering but telling facts. The following may be of help to you:
a) What is marijuana
b) Where is it found
c)What are the uses of Marijuana
d) What are the effects of Marijuana
e) who else may use marijuana and why?
f) What are the symptoms of an over-use of Marijuana (abuse) and what are the effects?
Ensure that you have reliable sources of information and references. Read more on drugs and drug abuse
Gather your findings, analyse, conclude and recommend.
In your essay topic i.e. Marijuana. (Introduce your topic by defining, describing it to ensure that your readers who are "believed" not to know about it understand it from your description)
Then, give the details of your findings, anlaysis, conclusion and recommendation in exhausitive points.
and there you are- your essay!
It feels exciting to write an essay especially when you have back-ups from reliable sources. The danger only comes when you decide to rumour monger on an issue you are not conversant with.

get the facts. search the web for dea sites for facts. but from a personal point of view, i find it hard to see why its illegal when nobodys killed, robbed or hurt anyone on it, when booze is so easy to get and it tends to make people fight and it ruins lives-everyones
