I am not gay. I am married and have three kids. I was wondering why people make such a big deal out of gay or lesbian couples getting married? Why do politicians try to ban it, or put it on the constitution? Also please do not say the bible says so, it also says to whip your slaves. I am a christian and go to church every sunday. Thanks

I don't care if they get married or not. But, it would be nice if they had that choice. They are humans too and they love others too. Their marriage would no affect my life in any way at all. And, it helps keeping them monogomous. Isn't that important? The politicians try to ban it because it goes against their religious beliefs. They feel people choose to be gay so they can just as easily choose a heterosexual life. That's just not the case. Who in their right mind would CHOOSE to be gay?

Personally, I don't care if gay people get married. It is their business. I think its the term 'marriage' that has people upset, because it has always been between a man and a woman. If the lesbian couple down the street wants to get married, more power to them. I don't think the Constitution should be used to discriminate.
I do notice a generational difference in views on this subject. If you look at the polls, its the older generations who are generally more opposed to gay marriage, whereas the younger generation is way more tolerant. So, over time, the country will liberalize on the subject, given the demographics.

The reason is it's a convenient smokescreen to hide more pressing and important issues.
Personally, I don't fancy the idea of the traditional family unit being replaced by some trendy bourgoise experiment with two dads and three surrogate kiddies- however, I thnik this is a minor issue compared to our governments forever sodomising us all with their stupid taxes and incompetence. So summarily- I don't really care too much one way or the other.
I have a gay Catholic Italian friend who is quite opposed to gay marriage simply as he thinks marriages should be only for straight people- so I don't know- I have no answer really.
But I'd hedge my bets by assuming that a traditionall, stable, loving family (unfortunately in the extreme minority now) would raise a child with better potential. But two good gay/lesbian parents would certainly be better than one or two shittty ones.
Just wait for all my thumbs downs.

I am married and father of two twin daughters. And I hardly see how commited gay or lesbian couples is a threat to the American dream. The ONLY reason I can think of as to why politicians in Washington may claim to be against for "moral" reasons is because of the lack of tax revenue. Suddenly you'd have 10 million gay and lesbian people in commited relationships filing joint/married as married couples instead of single! Even a $2000 difference in tax credits would = $10 BILLION in lost tax revenue for the federal government (the same amount we give away each year to Israel in foreign aid).

I honestly don't know. If people want to get married, they should be able to. I don't understand why gay/lesbian marriage is such a big deal. People should be more understanding, and learn to accept the fact that couples of the same sex can love each other too.

Well I myself am totally for gay marriages. My brother is gay and I believe that if someday he finds that one special person he should have the same right as me to unite themselves in matrimony for life. Unfortunately it is controversial and even though you say not to blame the bible a lot of people use it in their arguments against homosexuality and their marriages. This doesn't mean that anyone who follows the Bible and believes in it thinks that gay marriage is wrong. Just some people take it more literal than others. Also many people for instance, President Bush, take the vows as they are, man and wife. They think it is wrong to deviate from these vows and in doing so makes them void. I think people need to become more open and accepting.

I care because I think that any committed loving couple should be afforded the right to be at their spouse's bedside when the spouse is hospitalized. They should be able to have simple rights of inheritance of property and insurance. They should be able to get on a family health plan.

Obviously, I am in favor of marriage--the more people there are in committed, loving relationships, the more the institution of marriage is strengthened.

The argument that gay marriage is somehow a threat to marriage is ridiculous. The threat to marriage is divorce and living together outside the bounds of wedlock.

haha! yes! thank you!

i have no idea why people make such a big deal about it! i don't even believe it should be a political debate as it has to do with religion...i don't care if gays people get married, some of my best friends are gay and they are the nicest people I've ever met!

as long as they aren't making out in public i don't care, and that's not discrimination because i don't want to see straight people making out in public either...there's a time and place for everything...

Because married means a man and a woman. I am not against them getting "hitched" somehow and having all the same rights and benefits that married people have. They just have to call it something else. It has to sound different because it is different.

I don't care and do not understand why it is such a big issue. I am hetero and married with a child. Some people are just homophobic and disguise it as a moral stand.
