In Sinai the residents always keep a story or even a legend for most of the places. Some examples like (Kennedy's rock) which many people see it as a statue of George Kennedy. (Ras Shitan) in Nuweiba has something similar where there is a rock gives the feeling of Satan's head. In shark's bay It's more real than other places, Shark's used to come by and sleep in that bay and it's the same till now I think. I was there many times before the hotels and later after Pyramisa hotel. First there was no road or electricity at that time, but it was fantastic area when it was only the camp with many professional divers and their underwater cameras and flashes. Most of them went to dive by night on their responsibility to make films and many photos about corals, sharks and many other wonderful life underwater there.
It's also the same place where the Flash airline plane accident happened and some of the families still go to the area every year for the memory of their relatives.
My personal opinion is : Yes there are sharks in the bay but not very close to the shore and they are not very dangerous unless they are disturbed by someone. They are Egyptian sharks any way, so they are kind hearted.

Been twice to Sharks bay and never seen one yet.Dont be put off,it is a great place easy to get into the the sea as there is a jetty. We stayed at the Hilton Sharks bay and had a brilliant holiday both times.Never been told by anyone that they have seen sharks..People do night snorkelling there and I dont think that would be allowed if there was any chance of a problem. If your thinking of going have a good time and I bet you will visit again.

Because it USED to be a good place to see sharks. Now, as with most dive sites in the Northern Red Sea - crowded dive sites and mass sprawning of dive boats all concentrating on one moor line results in marine life suffering.
