I hear some women complaining that sometimes the less qualified male still gets chosen for the job. How do these women know the man is less qualified in the first place? Have they read their job resume? Or maybe the interviewer knows men are less likely to write about little feats on their resume than women. Or maybe the inerviewer assumed men are better wokers, just like men get higher car insurance because it is assumed they are more aggessive drivers?
What do you think?

R we are not here to tell personal stories. I also have no idea what you are talking about, your story is confusing and makes no sence whatsoever.

I actually believe otherwise. At places around here, a woman is more likely to get a better beginning position than a man. For example, at a grocery store nearby, they'll hire a woman right into the cashier position but tell the men they are going to start them at bagger and they can earn the cashier position. Both candidates have equal/no experience.

I've done a lot of recruiting in the last few years for various IT roles. The situation is fairly unique, in that there are two blue chip companies as prime contractors, with a government agency as the client. Both contractors are keen to employ as many graduates as possible, both for the experience they will gain and the profit they'll make.
I'm independent of both companies, and my remit is to get the right people in to ensure success, whilst also making sure I don't employ too many contractors or too few graduates!
Firstly, let me say that I was a little reluctant to put females into teams with 5 male nerds, although I did so - and my misgivings were proved wrong. Getting the right balance is the most important factor for any employer, and a strong female in a team of males certainly works!
In my case, if I employ a contractor, they definitely MUST have the right qualifications, and if I use a graduate, right fit is more important than qualifications, and experience has shown me that male & female are equal in this respect.

I have to agree with you. Women have come so far, but yet still have a long ways to go, especially when competing for jobs with men. I think honestly, most workplaces feel a woman may be absent eventually due to having children, etc... A man will always be at work. Another point to be made, alot of decision makers about who gets hired are men...in this day and age, still alot of Old school males are in charge of these departments. Because of this the Old school males prefer to work with men, therefore they unconsciously make those choices. I have worked with many men way older than me and they seem to have an attitude right away with me - and it makes me even more leary and defensive. It's not far, I hope this will change someday soon...I'm tired of this ignorance and retardation attitude. The days of male chauvinists are about to die after this next generation retires.

I think that this is often (not always) the case, but things are far better than what they use to be. Most people recognize that the experience and education of a person is what makes them qualified or not, and not the person's sex.

I think if anything a woman will be chosen over a man because the employer doesn't want to hear whining.
In fact my cable company has an advertisement that they're looking to have women and minorities--then turn around and say they're an equal opportunity employer.

I think it really depends on the job your going for! If your a women wanting to work at a women's clothing store or a man attempting to work at a women's clothing store who do you think will most likely get the job? or maybe people go on who looks more professional there is numerous reasons people get hired.
