Windows XP does not require drivers for CD drives .. it has it's own generic driver that will work on virtually any CD drive.

If it is an obscure CD or DVD burner then that is another story .... but not for a standard CD drive.

I think your problem may well be in a faulty installation of the device rather than with the driver....especially if XP does not detect it AT ALL.

Please verify that the cables are properly connected to your motherboard & that the jumper settings on the CD drive are correct.

- refer to the installation instructions that came with the unit or provide us a make & model of the drive for detailed assistance.

Sounds like your saying you installed the driver, did you?You need a driver for your CD drive to operate correctly on your PC.There should have been a installation CD ROM that came with your CD drive you need to run this to install a driver for your CD drive if you have no way to run a CD ROM you need to do a Google search for the drivers.Just get the brand and search for product support ,them look for the drivers for your model number.

Windows XP likes to load it's own drivers so let it find the new hardware and install it. Go to control panel add new hardware and let it happen
