Yes, there are potions and some work and some do not work.
From dictionary
"Potion=a liquid or liquid mixture, especially one that is medicinal, poisonous, or magical."

[Middle English potion, from Old French, from Latin pōtiō, pōtiōn-.]
Above from the American Heritage Dictionary.
Below retrieved from wikipedia:
"In legend a potion is a concoction used to heal, bewitch or poison people, made by a magician, sorcerer or witch. i.e., there can be cited love potions, intended to make a person fall in love with another, or potions for the opposite effect, intending that a person hate another. The love potion figures tragically into most versions the tale of Tristan and Iseult, including Richard Wagner's opera Tristan und Isolde."

"Potion Mixology - Getting psychic powers might feel next to impossible. This is common story for a lot of people. But thanks the Potion Mixology book and Psychic Potion Kits, people everyday just like yourself are learning how to unleash the subtle powers of their minds."

"A bit of clear water and clove oil will give you a potion that can hold away the pain of teeth and gum when applied on their surface."--This works for me.

Magic potions work for those who believe in magic. Medicinal potions work for those believing in medicines. Rejuvenating potions work for those who believe in them, and so on. Good luck!

Oh, I do disagree with whoever thinks there's no magic in the world!! Not the Harry Potter variety, perhaps, but there's magic in nature, life, and in every baby's eyes!

And yes, potions abound... just take a walk down the cosmetics or home-remedy aisle of any druggist's, WalMart, or fancy department store. A potion is just a term for a liquid or cream based product, generally used for cosmetic or medicinal purposes.

As for their magical qualities, look at the claims the potions make; "age-defying", "acne removal", "wrinkle/line vanishing". They're made with seemingly magical ingredients whose names we can't pronounce and whose properties are vague and esoteric.

There's potions for hair thickening, hair removal, hair coloring and hair growth. Potions to color your skin tan, protect it from UV light, and make your complexion more attractive.
Potions for stomach ache, stomach acid, and getting the red out of your eyes.

But despite the "magical" claims, all of the effects of the potions you find in the store are based in science and chemistry.

Yes; a potion is a medicinal or magical or poisonous beverage.

However, as we all know, there is no such thing as magic.

Only the uneducated believe in magic.

Here in Malaysia, many people believes in a love potion. A drop on that person & he/she will be in love with ya. I try not to believe in that kind of crap.
