If so , then. . .. .
What do they think they'll accomplish by defacing U.S. monuments ?
What kind of people would do something like that ?
And. . . .For all of you who thought this was to be a 'nobel cause'. . . . . . .Now whaddya think ? Hmmmm

DSTR - Thank you for making it perfectly clear that you do not read the question before attempting to answer it . I asked. . . 'Is it true.....'
Now that also explains your other answers .
Thanks for making it perfectly clear !!

I asked because SEVERAL other posts from last night referred to this as true, but I don't know. . . . . and isn't that why we ask questions ?

Yes, the story is true. They think they will accomplish change by committing a crime. Not very logical thinking, is it? I think anyone who uses a protest as an opportunity to vandalize property is a loser.

Cannot find it; however the HILL did report something of the kind. Their link is NOT; therefore, I believe the story is simply not true.
But "if" for argument's sake it happened to be true or in any case the defacing of national monuments were the objects of socialist anti-American hate? Those who would deface our national monuments or make the attempt should be arrested, tried, and if found guilty, imprisoned for a period of not less than, let's say 10 years.
Peaceful protest is one thing. But protest that involves-for the sake of this argument-destroying national monuments?! Never.

I'm trying to track it down. A right of center web page reported it, but the link was to a page on The Hill which had lapsed and didn't work.
Left of center I found this (amusing to read). http://www.seancoon.org/2007/01/the_dc_protest_from_misinformation_to_a_living_deathcount.html
Well, I now believe at least that The Hill reported it, erroneously or not, because SO MANY web pages have a link to The Hill for this story, clearly as evidence. They are saying the police were ordered to let the protest continue spraying the Capital Building stairs rather than create the desired confrontation.

I haven't seen anything in that regard...and I just finished reading today's paper.
The only things I saw on the "demonstrations" were that there were some folks arrested last night for violating the ordinance prohibiting people from stopping on the sidewalk in front of the White House...and that the organizers had permits for approximately 30,000 protesters for today's activities.
In terms of the latter, I don't really see 30K as a "massive" anti-Bush/anti-War protest.

I hadn't heard that yet but it would come as no surprise to me. People who have no respect for themselves can not be expected to have respect for National treasures, let alone any one else's feelings.
Defacing a National Monument should be a "Shoot-on-Sight" situation.

Perhaps they figured while they were at it, they would volunteer to do something worth while and spruce up the capitol? You know, give back something to the country, do something that would enhance the beauty of this nation. I'm sure all paint was white spray paint. Perhaps we an get a few of them to split off and do some weeding while they are at it.

I'm surprised they would be able to carry that many cans if it is true. I wonder how long Reuters will have to work in Photoshop to make this look like a 60's protest.

Isn't Liberalism grand. Deface public property, disgrace the troops, burn the country and all in the name of freedom and tolerance.

Being from DC myself and being against the war, that is something I would never attempt to do. Those monuments are a symbol of our country.
