We are funny creatures, humans. I have learned over the years that our attraction to another is usually mutual. Don't wait until someone else gets to date him.
Just go up to him when he is not talking to other people, tell him what you like about him and tell him you would like to go out sometime if he is interested. Most guys will be a bit embarrassed and not know how to react for a few minutes. That's ok, if he acts like a lump on a log, just smile, say bye and walk away. He will come around and ask you out.
If he doesn't it's his loss.

You don't have to tell him right away. Work up the courage to have conversations with him on a normal basis (ie: about classes/teachers, weather, ect...it doesn't have to be big topics). Even a hi will help. Once you're to the point where you're a little more comfortable around him, it may be a tad easier to tell him you like him. However, confessing feelings is never a walk in the park, so don't think being nervous isn't normal. Just take a deep breath and do it, and soon you'll get it over with. If you never tell him you'll never know how he feels. And don't worry about his reaction. If he's a nice guy he'll be kind with whatever his response is. If he's not, then he wasn't worth it in the first place and who cares what he says.
