I agree, Why should the people that do not have children have to make special concessions for the ones that do? You chose to have the kid! why should we have to bend around you! stay home and take care of them! I get tired of hearing "Sorry I'm late I had to pick my kid up, or I have to go early so I can drop my kid off" Do that on your own time the rest of us are tired of picking up your slack!!!!!

Do working FATHERS help or hurt the workplace?
In offices, they are often taking off time for personal activities with their children, or working at home. They often seem to cover for each other--backing each other up in workplace conflicts, granting each other unique privileges.
Has this been your experience? On the average, do working FATHERS help or hurt the workplace?

Did your mother help or hurt the workplace?????? Come on, it is 2007 not the 1900's. I agree with Janet, DO Working FATHERS help or hurt the workplace. My mother worked, a nurse, she didn't get special treatment. I was a working mother, I didn't get special treatment. If I had to leave for something, I made sure I came in early to get my work done. MY WORK WAS ALWAYS DONE BY MEEEEEE. Get with it. If this is happening in your workplace, then it is the fault of the managers, (I am a manager) letting it happen. My children are grown now, but I have working mother's working at my job. They DO NOT get special treatment. Late is late, no excuses. Being late because you had to drop off you kids is poor planning on the mother's part and should be addressed by the manager. I was never late because I had to drop off the kids, THEY were early for school. The fault does not lay with the working mothers, it lays with management. Don't blame all mothers for those in your work place taking advantage of your poor management. Every work place has someone or a group trying to take advantage of management. They always try to stretch the rules. Management is at fault for not treating all employees equally.

That depends on the person. In my experience the type of "working mother" you describe accounts for about 10 percent of all working mothers. Most working mothers I know are super-women! They are super organized and can juggle many responsibilities. The only real question is "Are workplaces and society doing enough to support working mothers?" I think not.

They help. A working mother is no different than any other worker. She is only there because she needs to earn a living. If there is anyone at fault it is the company that set the work atmosphere. It is the job of the department manager or supervisor to see that people are treated equally.
Good luck.

Money is just the way we transact the exchange of labor, an important concept to put into its perspective.
It used to take one person's income to purchase a house. Therefor it cost one person's labor to acquire a house. Then around the 1970's the construction industry (as well as other sellers of goods) discovered that people were willing to pay twice as much for a house (two person's labors) so they raised the prices to absorb the labor of two people. Now a family unit must exchange labor units from two people to purchase the goods that was previously purchasable by one person's labor.
Using that same logic, perhaps we should put the children of a family to work so that, because of supply and demand, it will then cost the yearly labor of four people to purchase what now costs the labor of two people. Wouldn't that be even more of an improvement?
Public school teaches people to be sheep. Private school teaches wolves how to prey on the sheep.
