If they are the same engine, i.e. they are both from the same motor series (also sometimes called the motor family) then you can do it. You will need the flywheel off the manual motor, as well as the clutch and pressure plate. you will also need a pilot bearing (or bushing) for the manual trans to guide or 'pilot' into alignment.

Good luck with your motor swap!

Indeed you can, because the engines in general are the same regardless of the transmission, they are two seperate entities. You may find that you will need some small parts to outfit the new engine however, which you can probably pull off your old one. These include adapter plates, etc. which are sometimes necessary to get the engine to fit with the transmission correctly.

When you change an automatic for a standard you have to change the bell housing too, dont you . Last time I done that was on a 65 Ford truck , 360, auto, back in the early '70's. I also had problems becuse of short and long blocks. Finally scraped the idea and bought another truck,Best idea for me

As long as it's the same year and car model it should be a straight bolt on fit..It would have been easier to answer your question if you would have told us the name of car and engine size..it's different with imports..like honda or toyota..but if it's a ford or chev.or dodge then the motor and transmission should be compatible for all .

Look and see if there is a pocket bearing or a hole for one in the end of the crankshaft for the manual trans shaft to fit in.And then see if the shaft is long enough to fit into it.some cheaper cars dont use them.
