As soon as any player gets injured for the first time, the player will not play as well as he use to. When he went down, Priest Holmes was the guy to step up (Who do you think was really the better back?). Now add age with that and he is not anymore. Look at some players like Ki-Jana Carter, who injured himself on the first play in his career, Marcus Allen at the end of his career, and do you think Bo Jackson was ever the same again after his injury. Age and injuries hurt the abilities more than anything else.

I think the correct answer is just general "wear and tear" that occurs over time on a bruiser-type running back as he ages.

However it also appeared that, after he served that jail sentence over the summer a few years ago, his nutrition and conditioning suffered a bit. He was never the same after spending time in the pen. Might have a role in his decline too.

simply it seems now in the new nfl era these running backs are only great when there younger and fresh but after the banging and grinding it seems as though they run out if gas, espicially when these head coaches turn these guys in to work horses see jamal anderson

He is a POWERback, they have a shorter NFL "life" span. They get their peek and then fizzle out kinda quick. That is why the Browns gave him a one year contract. They figure he still has a little but don't think it is the line, and I don't either. He isn't going to last too long.

At first i thought it was Bal inability to throw the ball before McNair, but now i just think the injury/jail time and the his run over and through every tackle running style has simply destroyed his body. He has lost a step of speed and can't hit the hole on time anymore. Its going to get worse for him at CLE. This is his last contract.

They arnt giving him as many snaps as he used to get because he is getting older and those hard hits he takes, take a toll on him or on anyone.
