Yes, you can, but don't expect that the graphic will be better. The graphic will be the same as you play on PS1. On other side, you cannot play PS2 game on PS1console.
Why you still want to play PS1 game? Some of the PS1 game also have PS2 version, just get one of those, better graphic.
