I have a one week old; my second child. During my stay at the hospital when having a C-Section, I had a horrible time with chills while being excessively hot. I know this is hormonal but it was really severe and now that I've been home for the past week, my nights are interupted by hot flashes (?) or night sweats. They are unbearable. My hair is wet, my clothes are soaked and so are my sheets. I wake up freezing because of the sweat but then return to being overly hot immediately. This only happens at night and I've tried sleeping with shorts and a tee but nothing less or more helps.

Has anyone gone through this; can anyone offer support or suggestions? It is making sleep impossible. I'm miserable. This did happen with my first child but my OBGYN said it was hormones and normal. There has to be some solution. Thanks in advance.

Yup, it's completely normal. My doc also told me it's hormones and there's nothing he can give me for it. I just had to muddle through. It also seemed like when I was nursing I'd get the hot flashes too.

Once your body recovers (by your first OB checkup) you should be back to normal. For me it was 4-6 weeks and they were gone.

The only thing that helped was we had fans close by. I had one by my bedside and another where I nursed. That way if I got really uncomfortable I just turned the fan on me.

Ehm..
Hyperhidrosis, also known as polyhidrosis or sudorrhea means excessive sweating; sweating too much
The most active regions of perspiration include the hands, feet, armpits and the groin area because of a relatively high concentration of sweat glands in those areas.
There are two types of hyperhidrosis. Primary focal hyperhidrosis refers to overactive sweat glands that affect certain areas of the body, such as the hands, feet, face or underarms.
This form of hyperhidrosis can't be prevented and isn't contagious because it was probably inherited (although the condition may skip a generation). Secondary generalized hyperhidrosis is total body
sweating prompted by secondary medical conditions or medications.

I was told over the phone that it was hormonal, but I really felt like something was wrong so I asked to be seen anyway because I was "freaking out and scared." They saw me, and it wound up being mastitis (my breasts were all effed up and I had an infection) but I didn't know because I was told that, in a previous phone conversation, being sore was my milk letting down and my breasts adjusting to breastfeeding.

Go with your instincts on this and hope for the best!
