You don't HAVE to, especially as Dreamweaver is WYSIWYG( What You See Is What You Get) software. Flash, well, I don't have to code to use it,but some people might want to.
I look at it like this. If I liked to code, I wouldn't need Dreamweaver or Flash.

No, you don't need to know Javascript or Flash action script, but as you get further along the design path, you might find it useful to learn.

Adding behaviours in Dreamweaver will put the appropriate Javascript into the page for you as will a number of other functions and features.

If you do add Javascript to a page, do test the page with javascript disabled to see what some of your site visitors will see if they have Javascript disabled (as quite a few do).

php is a useful language to learn, as it runs on the server and hence is not affected to the same degree by user browser settings.

Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG client, so you will not need to know code. In fact Dreamweaver does alot of JavaScript PHP features just by a one-click item, and it'll insert the script for you. You may need to know a little HTML to know how to make better designs in Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver also has the ability to easily implement ColdFusion (cfm) into your webpages.

Flash uses a script called Action Script which is necessary to make items in Flash clickable to move around slides, but not for links. However, Action Script for clicking on Flash is very simple commands: usually gotoAndPlay(frame);, gotoAndStop(frame);, play();, or stop();.

You can get by without it while you're learning, then later if you want to go into the programming in more depth you can learn it and do more advanced stuff. But they're both useable if you don't know any at all, a lot of stuff is automated, especially with Flash.

ive been using flash and dreamweaver for months now and what i learned pretty soon is you can just place objects on your screen in design view and it appears in code language. this is good if youre interested in using code or editing it out of design view. you will never need code for flash because it uses the same principles

I've just started to learn flash and you don't need that much experience. I'm using a Lynda.com video tutorial to learn it, very good tutorial!
