I think any computer you take care of will be the best. That being said, starting with a name brand computer is a great start. Dell has quality products and reliable machines. If you get a plan to take care of these machines, they will last a long time. I have a 6 year old dell that runs circle around most new laptops.

If you are looking to purchase a new Dell, you can find the latest coupons at http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html

Good luck.

Hi there

I had a Dell PC myself, they do run well but the only problem is that when you want to upgrade, you apparently have to buy all of your upgrades from Dell which costs a lot more than it would from anywhere else, PC World for example. I therefore decided that my next computer wouldn;t be a Dell computer Only because of the cost, no other reason. I had a lot of use out of my Dell system.

Dell is far from the best, contrary to popular belief.
Lousy tech support and proprietary components (non standard) making them very limited to upgrade.

My 1st PC was a dell and returned it the same week due to incompetence. The most popular don't mean its the best.
Most people say its best based on that's the only computer they've owned, try something other then a Dell and you'll see how much they actually suck.

I'm very "close" to HP. Compaq and HP are junk. Dell is barely ok if you don't want to do any upgrades but has had a lot of problems.
Past hands-on experience...My Gateway has been flawless for about 3 1/2 years now. Wife's Toshiba ran for 4 years of full time college until we recently upgraded to an eMachine (aka Gateway).

I have a Dell and its good , BUT if you want to upgrade them you can have problems or it will be expensive becuse in many cases the only altrnative is buying the thing you want to upgrade only available from DELL.
Build a PC yourself is in the long run often the best choice.

i disagree...for these reasons.....1. the are a pain to upgrade and have limited choices on components 2. dell systems are very picky about what RAM you can use. 3. my dad's 18 month old dell dimensions xps pc died very suddently when the motherboard shorted out...he had to buy a new pc so he went with hp instead and for the same money he paid for the dell he got a kick *** system with dual core intel cpu 1.2TB storage and 3GB ram and 512MB ATI graphics card.
