Kids at this age like anything that is creative. That said, look up in your local newspaper if there are any one day classes for this age group (arts and crafts mainly) and you can take them to that. Also, the local library and the YMCA have stuff all the time for this age group so you can also consult with them.

One of the most favorite things 10 and 12 year olds like to do is hands on stuff. Do you have a childrens (not little kids) museum with hands on activities? How about a zoo or aquarium?! How about making and decorating cookies--there are tons of cookie cutters out there, take the kids to pick out what cookie cutters they want then go home and bake them!

Most importantly, keep the kids away from the nintendos. They play those enough and need to spend time together!

do some creative things together, like quizzes, clue games or i see what you don't see, can you guess what that is?? give away prices that are personal belongings, or the loser gets to do a job or task of the others. it can be fun and educational.
you can make up story's and read it to each other or to you neighbor(granny) let her choose a best and tell her to give something. train the pets and have an in-house contest of which animal is more... obedient, nicely dressed etc

Hi kids,
My son is 20 and my daughter, 17. When they were your age and older they would spend lots of time making comedy movies, and t.v. spoofs. They once did a hilarious Trading Spaces. Sometimes they would act, and sometimes they would use lego guys. They had a very twisted sense of humor, and we would all watch it and laugh so hard. They were really funny. If you have a video camera you can film it, or you just act it out for yourselves or your family if you can't film it.
