I am thinking of forming a childrens orchestra/music group. I am unsure of the law regarding this. ie. I expect you require police checks on adults involved. Also how many adults required for group of say 10 to 20. We would operate from local village hall and parents would pay a fee. i am a piano teacher who simply likes the idea of providing something fun for the children.

You do need to have a police check to make sure you don't have a criminal record or anything to discriminate your ability to be around/work with young people. You would also need permission from the local council to form a group/hire a venue. Probably only 2 or 3 adults would be needed to supervise.

OFSTED requires that the minimum staff to child ratio should be:

1:3 for children under 2
1:4 for 2 year olds
