I adopted a Yorshire Terrier from a rescue organization. Julia was what is called a 'breeder' dog from a puppy mill and her litters sold for thousands. This rescue told me that they had her 'completely vetted' this was according to rescuer: "teeth, blood work, vacc. and HW". Julia was not spayed at the time due to the mange. I had to promise to do this. Though Julia had d. mange they were wanting to adopt her out (through petfinders.org) They gave me a reduced price for her due to mange. Fastforward to three weeks. Julia belly is getting bigger....took her to vet. Vet dx her as having liver disease, took X Ray and ruled out pregnancy (nothing on xray). Told me to go home. Two weeks later due to her bulging belly vet said "You need to face reality, she's dying she has liver disease I will not treat her, take her to animal hospital". I do. After spending $3178 I was told Julia IS preg. The vet that told me I needed a reality check was shocked. Julia gave birth 5 days later, 8 pups

5 live.
I want the rescuer lady who seems to be more of a dog broker to no longer be in business. Who thinks of "reputable rescues"? I sure didn't. This lady BEGGED me not to 'tell anyone it will ruin her reputation that she adopted out a dog with mange" and who later by calculations, GOT PREGNANT by HER OWN BREEDER DOG, a shih-tzu!!!

I want to close her down, I do not like lawsuits as I think they are generally useless. Any suggestions please.

I live in Wisconsin, as does this 'rescuer'.

Well, first, CONGRATULATIONS! Next, I would see if you can be reimbursed from the vet that told you she was dying! What if you decided to put her down at that time? That was just a gross misdiagnosis! Where did he get his DVM???? A matchbook? When you buy an animal from anyone, it is always a good idea to get the name of their vet and get vet records before purchasing.

What I would do is contact the ASPCA and tell them what happened. They may be able to direct you to the proper organization to file a complaint and try to shut her down! I don't care how much she begs. SHE NEEDS TO BE REPORTED! As does the vet that told you she was dying from liver disease.

I would file a lawsuit. It will be officially on record. You can sue for your vet bills while you're at it!

I would report this woman to the SPCA or the Humane Society. She probably uses that line (that she's a reputable rescuer) to sell puppies. She's probably the puppy mill. Real rescuers charge a minimal fee that often is refundable once you get the dog neutered. The SPCA will send an investigator to check her out, and they'll take your statement and probably shut her down.

My dog had a false pregnancy with negative xrays and all. She was producing milk and the vet still said it was a false pregnancy. One afternoon I came home to find her crying like she was dying. She had to have a C-section. So evidently, this mistake is not at all uncommon.

Just love your little dog, as I'm sure you must.

Report the "rescuer" to the ASPCA as they will make the call on whether or not she needs to be prosecuted or put out of business...etc.. As for the dog already being "completely vetted" is it possible that her vet too ( or if she uses the same one) missed the pups on the xray also? Or maybe she was not far enough in her pregnency to show big signs! If the lady told you she was not spayed, there is always some risk the dog could be pregnent especially if she lives with unfixed males.

As for the vet... you should take him to court-- a vet should not deny to treat someones dog... and what kind of vet misses puppies on an xray!? I'm sure if you had told the vet she was not spayed and lived with males, he would have actually tried harder in his work....What if you had chosen to put your dog down right then because she was "dying"? You should sue the vet for the money you spent at his offic, the 3178$ you spent at the animal hospital, malpractice ( i mean, what vet mistakes PREGNENCY for DYING!? That's insane and worries me! Because not everyone catches their vets mistakes so good job! ) the gas money it took you to drive places, and for the cost of the dog entirely, as he could have costed you your dogs life!

That must of sucked. Give her a law suit for all the money you paid. Pity the puppy, because it's probably dead or still dying. Try to have it and the pup's live very good lives. Or you could threaten to lawsuit the 'rescuer' and sometimes they'll pay you not to say anything and give you money. Try to get more than $5000 because that's your right.

I don't think you're being very fair because this lady was juz trying to giv the dog a good home and if she rescues animals she obviously means well. If any 1 the vet should be blamed for not doing his job properly

Sue the first vet for the misdiagnoses, and the amount of money you paid him.

whats the question?
There is really nothing you can do, except that vet needs to check things more carefully.
