In addition to the other answers, make sure you have a patch and repair kit onboard, extra paddles, a air pump with the proper connecting hose, and a first aid kit does not hurt either. Also, find out what size motor the boat is rated for, it should say on the transom (the part at the stern of the boat where the motor sits).

don't you have any friends?? ask someone you know how to manage a boat. there are no inherent problems with pontoon boats. there is no drain plug!! just maintain the engine and keep the entire boat covered when not in use. keep it clean and you will enjoy it for years to come.

.....Wonders why someone would go into something they have no clue about without researching it first.
Take a coast guard boating course to make sure you don't hurt yourself, or anyone else.
It doesn't matter if you're just parking on a lake, or cruising or whatever.
Know the "rules of the waterway".
And always have live vests on board.
You don't say if you're using it in fresh or salt water, but always flush the engine when you're done for the day.
