Hi,
There are two separate recalls of canned pet food going on as of March 17, 2007.
The first is by menufoods which produces foods for 20+ companies.
The second is by Proctor and Gamble, makers of Iam and Eukenuba.
Go here to the FDA site for more information:

I stopped feeding my cats and dogs Iam's food several years ago after educating myself on the company and some of its horrific practices.
I note that recently they have been cited for failing their own listed nutrition on their labels by huge percentages. This has nothing to do with the recall and the kidney failure, but I'm glad it's shining a light on the meat sources of Iam's and other companies:
"Furthermore, Iams gets much of its meat supply from the rendering industry—which is not regulated for quality assurance by the USDA as Iams claims and has a long history of supplying big pet-food companies with so-called “4-D meats” (which come from dead, dying, disabled, or diseased animals)."

I know there are some fairly extreme animal rights folks out there, and I don't agree with a lot of the way they do things. But.... the fact that they pull some stunts doesn't negate the fact that they do get it right more often than they don't.
We all love our pets, and I just want to be sure I'm not supporting any company that treats their research animals so horrifically.
There are also a slew of companies that don't engage in this practice, and they may be found on:

I don't belong to Peta, or any animal rights group and it is not my intention to cause any harm to any pet owner. I just know I felt ill when I realized what I'd been inadvertently supporting. The web is a great place for research. Please do not take my word for it, but educate yourselves on what's out there and then make an informed decision. I'm not here to argue my point and I've pretty much said all I think needs be said by me.
I myself use Natural Balance after doing some heavy research, but I know there are a ton of other really good ethical pet food suppliers. I think our pets are worth a little research.
best to you all and all your furry folks.

No. As of right now, the only products that are affected are "cuts and gravy" style pet food (cans and pouches) but if you read the manufacturers website, www.menufoods.com, the company states that they are unsure as to the exact source of the problem. They are leaning towards something to do with the "wheat gluten" ingredient. I do not see this ingredient listed on our IAMS dry puppy food. However, it is listed on a bag of pet snacks I have (Priority brand - also listed on the wet food recall) made at menu foods. I would check your pet snacks, etc. and hold off feeding your pet anything from these companies with this ingredient until they pinpoint the problem - just to be safe.

I've had a hard time finding the list, since the servers have probably crashed at iams. There's a list posted here:

Iams and Eukanuba "dry" products are not manufactured at Menu Foods and not affected by this issue. Iams and Eukanuba biscuits, treats and sauces are not affected by this issue.
