In the UK it was Don't Go Breaking My Heart with Kiki Dee in 1976.
As a solo artist it was Sacrifice/Healing Hands (double A side) in 1990.

Sir Elton John. He's a singer/songwriter and has sold pretty much over 250 million records worldwide. He's had a bunch of #1s, both in albums and singles. He's completely amazing at piano. He helps with charities and shiz, like the AIDS Foundation. He's pretty much awesome to be honest. :) You've probably heard a couple of his songs? Candle in the Wind, Tiny Dancer, Your Song. You must have heard "Don't Go Breaking My Heart"? 'cause everyone has, haha. He's really epic actually, go youtube and love him. :)

'Your Song', recorded in 1970 was Elton's first HIT single.
From the website below, referring to his album: Elton John's Greatest Hits 1970 - 2002: 'Your Song was Elton's first hit and the obvious choice for starting this collection.' Also, from the second site: 'The song was John's first pop hit.' (Referring to Your Song).
