Unfortunately not in a 1000 words, but it is a topic that makes interesting research. In a nutshell though, WWI started as a result of imperialistic ambitions. Kaiser Wilhelm, who had always been envious of British power, especially there navy, begun an arms race that was always destined for a conflict between the two nations (look up dreadnoughts). Thereafter European nations allied themselves with each other in a bid to 'protect themselves from each other'. Germany/Austro-Hungarian Empire/Ottaman Empire (Turkey). The British Empire/French/ Russians. This was always a volatile relationship which just needed one 'smoking gun incident' (see Arch Duke Ferdinand).

WWII was a direct result of an allied victory and harsh reparations (see Versailles treaty), this enabled Hitler's Nazi party to gain control of Germany (see Munich Beer putsch). thereby allowing an evil despot the opportunity to live out his fantasy (see German's Lebens Raum).

I know that this is a very brief answer but hopefully it has given you enough to explore and make your own opinion, after all is that not what history's about. Happy researching

This annonymous writing could have been written by a soldier from either World War I or World War II:

And when he goes to heaven
To Saint Peter he will tell,
Another Marine reporting, sir;
I've served my time in hell.

The First World War , or Great War, was an international conflict that in 1914–18 embroiled most of the nations of Europe along with Russia, the United States, the Middle East, and other regions. The war pitted the Central Powers—mainly Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey—against the Allies—mainly France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan, and, from 1917, the United States. It ended with the defeat of the Central Powers.

World War II (abbreviated WWII), or the Second World War, was a worldwide conflict fought between the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers, from 1939 until 1945. Armed forces from over seventy nations engaged in aerial, naval and ground-based combat. Spanning much of the globe, World War II resulted in the deaths of over 62 million people, making it the deadliest conflict in human history. The war ended with an Allied victory.

Here are some web sites which will discuss the differences between the two wars...

World War One was triggered by an assassination. The Austrians invaded Serbia and with all the interconnected "Mutual Defence" pacts, soon the entire continent was at war.

The primary form of combat was trench warfare. An ugly stalemate and poor tactics led to millions of casualties. Some important new things were developed: Aircraft used in combat for the first time. Artillery advancements made concentrated artillery barrages fairly accurate. Unrestricted submarine attacks for the first time. Tanks were first developed by the British.

Also the Russian revolution occurred in the middle of this war. And the US was brought into the war because the Germans sunk a passenger liner with many Americans on board.

World War Two was started when Germany invaded Poland. Here again mutual defence pacts forced England and France to declare war on the aggressor. This time combat was primarily mobile, with tanks being the centerpiece of the armies. Germany's early success was a direct result of their geater grasp of armored warfare. Once again the US tried to stay neutral, but only barely. They were selling war materiel to England long before they got into the fighting. But the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and pulled them in again. Airiel warfare evolved quite a bit since World War One and in the second war was a significant factor.

At the end of the Second World War the conquered nations were actively assisted by the victors. This produced far less anger in these countries than the harsh reparations demanded at the end of the first. This time however, the Allied powers ended up in a Cold War with their former allies, the Soviet Union.

World War 1 happened because the European nations wanted to expand. Germany was the last of Central powers to surrender so it got the blame. World war 2 the Germans were so fed up with the world that they started attacking everyone. Also in World War 2 the Holocaust occured.

WWI was a result of years of bitter rivalries between the European powers, which was sparked off by the shooting of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand by Serbian nationalists. This lead to a series of alliances dragging more nations into the conflict. Most of the fighting was trench based, and the victory over Germany was largely political - the damage to the country was done afterwards.

WWII was the results of Nazi Germany's expansion within Europe, which had been countered with 'appeasement'. Eventually, Britain and France took action, but probably too late. Whilst WWI was confined largely to Europe, WWII raged in North Africa and the Pacific. Far more people died in WWII as well - around 10 million in WWI, and around 60 million in WWII, half of whom were civilian.

One was fought mostly on the land of Europe. while world war two involved fighting in Europe Africa Asia and of course the Atlantic and pacific ocean and saw more use of the new terror weapon the high level bomber. the indiscriminate bombing of the civilians by the allies and the axis powers. more people dying who had nothing to do with the front line.

World War I began as a result of nationalism, alliances, militarism, and the assasination of the heir to the AustroHungarian throne.

World War II was about stopping German expansion in Europe.

They are both the same. Many people from both sides died. In a total war the cost is always too much.
