Yes, I really did feel a lot better when I quit drinking. Mentally, it took a couple of weeks to stop thinking about having at least a beer, but I knew if I did then that would be it. I feel much better mentally now. I can think a lot clearer and I don't get those dreaded phone calls telling me all of the stupid stuff I said or did when I was drunk. Physically I feel much better, too. I have more energy and don't feel so drained the next morning. It may take a little time for you to feel better, but it is definitely worth it! Good Luck to you.

One thing to keep in mind is, if you have a problem with alcohol, there may be an underlying reason why you drink.
My husband has been sober for seven years and it's the best thing that's happened to him.
However, he drank because he was depressed and now is being treated for that.
Physically, I know he feels better, has more energy and mental clarity, plus he's a much nicer person sober!
It took a few weeks to get over the physical symptoms of alcoholism.

Oh boy. I see people writing, I gave up alcohol and I feel great-blah,blahblah. But yet on the hand they still smoke or do some kinda otherbad habit. There's nothing wrong with drinking. It's just to bad that you become such a lush and can't understand when enough is enough. It's not rocket science-a drink or to and that's it. I can't understand how someone can become a alcoholic. You get the lame reasons, my parents were alcoholic, i was beaten as a child, I was depressed, blah blah any reason to get outta control. It's called self control. I read a study on people who quit a habit. and only to pick up another habit that is even worse on them then the one they quit. So there is nothing wrong with alcohol. Alcohol is actually good for the body. Just case you haven't read that people who quit drinking after many years of it, they put them-selfs in a higher percentage to get liver cancer.then people whom continue to drink. Over years after stopping the liver starts to dry out at a fast rate and that can be bad for they body. If people get some self control and stop making excuses for everything they do in life, this world would be awesome. Cheers

This is a long haul and I would say it took about a year. But to be incredibly well you must abstain all together and never take another drop (sober for fifteen years and don't miss it). Good Luck!

I was a heavy drinker/drunk for 20+ years. I quit seven years ago.
After about a month, I started feeling much better -- my appetite and sleep cycle began to straighten out.
After about a year, I noticed huge improvements in my mood, my stamina, my ability to think clearly, my judgment and my energy levels.
After seven years without alcohol, I look and feel much better than I did seven years ago -- and I was seven years younger then! ;-)

Gosh yes Brutus. While you are drinking and partying it up-guaranteed a lot of fun but then you wake up feeling like crap for a couple of days, don't function right. I decided it best to give it up in its entirety and think it is the best choice I ever made.

Yes. I do it about twice a year for a month just to clean out my system, Usually lose about 10 pounds in the process.

Just remember how you felt waking up with a hangover, and compare it with how you feel now. It is enough to put anyone off their drink.
