007, sigh, democrats are the people that got us into vietnam, mate. Generally, in hindsight, we figured out, in vietnam, we could not win a civil war!

All those who hate totalitarianism would appreciate what happened in Vietnam and what is happening to-day in Iraq.

I protested the war in Viet Nam.
I was wrong.
Our capitulation led to the slaughter of millions of peple.
We were there fighting a war against the spread of Communism. In fact we had gone in because the UN begged us to help the French, who ran out of there as soon as we arrived.
Iraq is a completely different story.
VietNam had not repeatedly violated a ceasefire treaty with the US .
They had not fired at our aircraft on a regular basis.
They were not offering monetary rewards and aid and comfort to terrorists who committed atrocities against us and our allies.
They had not defied the entire international community by banishing weapons inspectors.
They did not threaten a stranglehold on the mid east oil supply - the lifeblood of western commerce.
They were not a publicly sworn enemy of the US - Sadaam was.
The lesson we should learn from VietNam is that -whether you are for or against the war - once there, you can't leave until the job is done.
We must stay until the country is stabelized...the alternative would be disastrous to all Americans...even anti war Americans!

We were justified in both.

Viet Nam was a culture shock to us as far as the war fight goes. We tried to do the same type tactics as WWII and Korea. It didn't work. Just about the time we figured that out and was on the way to getting it fixed, we pulled out.

Iraq is much the same way in that we didn't have an occupation plan. We're not very good at that since we don't typically conduct war in that fashion. Now, we have a better handle on the situation and are on the brink of taking Iraq to the next step in civility. I just hope we don't leave too soon.

Despite what the media is telling you, we are beating the insurgency.

The only reason we are in Iraq is because GWB wanted to be a war time President for the '04 election.
The Muther F'r politicizes everything.

we went to Vietnam at the request of the french, they were there and got stomped, so we went to help them and then in normal french fashion they ran. The truth is yes we should have been there we should have let or generals run the war and win, but instead we let the liberals bend us over just like they are trying now.

Actually I think we had no business in Vietnam. But Iraq I completely support.

Both wars have many things in common.

Neither war had a victory plan, both are endless, and neither had public approval.

Just like in Vietnam....we need to leave Iraq.

a just war? When does that ever have anything to do with war, war is conquering time, money making time, can you name a just war. WW II was not even about justice, it all about revenge.
