Ad-aware is by far one of the best ones that I know that is purely free, you will see more out there but many have limited free extras or want you yo upgrade. I always get mine at c-net download...you can pretty much find all that is needed there.

1. No, not good enough. 2. "free?" You search google.com

Or, have you updated these blockers? Do you run an Anti-Virus program, 24/7/365?

Apply these free products:
1. AVG by Grisoft, free to home users
2. Spybot S&D
3. Lavasoft Adaware
4. Only run Firefox, with 'NoScript' add-on activated
5. Only develop web pages with MozillaNVU
6. Run behind a hardware firewall, http://ipcop.org on an older Pentium class machine, headless.
7. Only run http://Open Office.org
8. GET CrapCleaner, run it weekly! (one minute cleaner!)
9. Shootthemessenger

All the new pop-ups take advantage of Microsoft's "Open Desktop" policy, 32,264 open ports, and activeX. Turn them off. Zone Alarm is one 'firewall' that blocks ports.

Now then, aren't you very tired of all the problems with the multiple convicted multiple felon Microsoft Corporation, the patches that don't and the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions" that include all the problems you encounter now?

If you are ready to think 'outside the box' that Microsoft has put you in, get http://pclinuxos.com that runs upto 50X faster, is a true multi-process, multi-tasking concurrent OS, including 5500 Free games, applications, suites, and programs.

Immune to the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions"!

This LiveCDrom runs in the CD or in 1Gb of RAM and boots in that RAM virtual drive. Contains all the web development programs to build, manage, serve.

I would install it on a separate machine (any Pentium
class >350Mhz with >256 Mb RAM and a >6Gb hard drive).

Huge support forum on the webpage, too!

I know you are smart and willing to learn new computer stuff!

Go for it! http://livecdlist.com has 310 LiveCDroms of Free stuff! With reviews! http://distrowatch.com

Good enough for what?
I use it and yes, the personal version is free.
To all those who have it, run a smart system scan after you sign off from Yahoo Answer. You might be surprised at the results!

Here is the download: http://www.adawareresource.com/co/adawareresource/?sid=M2AG0001eGS
It is good but I would also download SpyBot Search and Destroy and use in in conjunction with Adaware...

Ad-Aware is good, much better if you also download the "plugins" plus the updated definition files. However, if you're into indept analysis, it would be best to have Spyware Blaster & Spybot installed in your computer. Combining these three (3) will give you extra strong protection.

If you do not have firefox get it now and use it instead of internet explorer so you dont get any more spyware http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.com/

(1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans in safe mode http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

(2) Do an online virus scan to check if you still have viruses on your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .
