In 1961, I was 21 year old Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, when I purchased a 3 bedroom Semi Detached granite-built Cottage with 1/3rd of an acre garden with sea views at a place called 'Lamorna Cove' {West Penwith, Cornwall} for the then substantial sum of "620 & a 1/2 Guineas" {£631--10 Shillings & 6 d} or in todays money :£631.52pence!
During my time in the service I rented the property out. In 1987-89 the house underwent a complete modernisation plus the building in granite of a single storey 2 bedroom self contained Annex adjoining the side of the orginal building with a Conservatory to the rear: The total cost of those improvements cost £8,200.00. An overall layout of £8,831.52p.
I have just had it placed on the Market and am asking a very reasonable
£685,000.00 for it, should you be seeking a property with possible one of the best uninterupted views of the Atlantic!
I still own the property

In 1967, 23 year old, we started buying a house for £4,000 on the Isle of Wight. We moved down from Surrey where they were an extortionate £5500 for a semi.
We paid £47000 for our present house in 1986, it now worth £250,000.
It is all rubbish really, you still have a building, just more folk making money out of you.

1970 I was 24 and the house cost $6,900, in the USA, today it is probably worth $70,000, however we have owned several homes since then....
The house was 110 years old when we bought it, it was a modest two story brick house and the walls were three layers of brick thick!!!! You could stand behind the curtains in the window sills....they don't build them like that anymore!

I bought my first house with my husband in downtown St. Louis when I was 21. We got it for $93,900.....3br/1b. Lived in it for a year, then had to move across the state due to my husband's job promotion. Had to sell it in two weeks. Took a loss and sold it for $107,500. Could have sold it for at least $115,000.
