I have been riding dirt bikes for over 8 years, and I have done the safety classes.

I would go for it. My first Street bike was a Honda F3. (600cc) I started with a 350 cl and very quickly adapted to the 600. They are pretty tame under 5000 rpm. When you want to get it on, the power curve is predictable and I am sure you can handle it. I know a LOT of people coming off dirt bikes to a 600 and they all do well. I would NOT recommend anything less. After 8 years, you certainly know how to work a throttle and the 600's are pussycats under 5K. I am sure you will be happy with the FZ6, just take it easy for the first 100 miles or so.

Happy motoring.

As a first bike I would vote No. However you did say first street bike, if you have off road competency on a "full size" dirt machine you may be OK. It's a free country or so they tell us.

Good choice. It is powerfull, but light and easy to handle. Read up on reviews (there plenty from motorcycling magazines). Learn it and respect it's power when riding. Practice, practice, practice.
I have an FZ1 and think Fazers both 1 and 6 are one of the best "naked" class machines
