I want to dye my hair magenta, but my family doesn't think I should. I don't know why though, for I'm a good kid, and I hang out with the 'right' crowd. I understand what I'm getting into, and how people might judge me on my hair, but I'm not a person who cares what other people think of them. Any ideas?

Use a temporary dye that will wash out after a few washes. If your parents freak out then you can assure them that it is temporary. Plus, if you don't like it you won't have to bleach it out and redye it. Also, a lot of salons offer some really nice and vibrant red colors. Your parents may not be as squeamish if you have it done professionally, and you won't have to worry about doing it well yourself.

Hair dying is really risky these days because of the chemicals in the dye. These chemicals have been known to cause diffreent types of cancers. Your family is only concerned about your well being and want you to have a presentable image. Yes, it would be certainly fun to dye your hair and add some colour to your life, but it is potentially unsafe.

But how come you want to dye your hair magenta, if you don't care what everyone else thinks of you?

If you are seriously considering dying your hair magenta and your parents are in the way, try to persuade them. Tell them why it is important and let them know that if they let you dye your hair, you will do whatever (ex: behave, not fight with sibling, etc.) The worst your parents can do is say "when you're older you can dye your hair" which is better than never.

Another problem with dying hair is that eventually, the dye will start fading at the roots of your hair showing your natural colour, and you will feel obligated to re-dye it. Dying your hair too much will dry your hair out.

Good luck

Rock on! You shouldn't care what people think! (other than your parents, of course. :) Anyway, like above post said, get some temporary dye for your hair, and make sure you get it done by a professional. If you already have a stylist you see all the time, make sure it is by him/her. I think magenta is very pretty. If people laugh at you, let it roll off your back- who are they to judge you? Jesus Christ the THE judge. Hope this helps!

God Bless!

maybe your family's thinking that you might regret dyeing your hair after a few days, because you might not like the color after all or something. so you could try one of those hair dyes that come in cans that can be shampooed out first.

then talk to your family, tell them you know what you're getting into, that you know how people judge others on appearances and that you can deal with the consequences. tell them why you want to dye your hair, too. they could be thinking that the reason that you want to dye your hair is that you got into a 'bad crowd' or something..

I say go for it, just try a semi permanent dye before you go permanent. It is completely normal to want to express yourself and if you are a good kid like you say, what is hair color going to change? I experimented with all sorts of colors when I was younger, and you know, honestly, get it out of your system now. I wish I could still try out new colors all the time but working in the health care field I have to look somewhat 'normal'. Do it when your young and in school before you have to be a boring adult!

If you parents are really worried ask about a temporary dye, it comes out in like a few weeks. I would ask your parents why they are uncomfotable with this. It is not always safe to dye your hair if you are under the age of 12. It is your choice but I would recommend temporary dye.

use temporary hair dye.... at first.... make sure u like it and maybe ur parents will start getting used to the idea of magenta hair........ i always wanted to put a color like that in my hair but i couldnt cause its against my school dress code (my mom would actually let me)...... but i got red..... anyway..... and if ur parents dont like magenta use a vibrant red or orange..... that way u will still have a "natural hair color" color in ur hair but i will still look different......
