I have had my computer for 3 months and for the first 2 it worked fine. Now it only boots correctly about 70% of the time and when I do actually log on I will usually get the error "STOP: 0X000000F4". After I get this error once and manage to boot my computer successfully again I do not get the stop error again.

When the computer fails to boot the erorr message usually reads something like "Failed to find correct boot device".

Any help would be much appreciated.

you say it 70% only of the times,i think u should do the following steps:
1-check the data cable of your hdd
2-if the same thing happens check your memory chips by taking them off then placing them again tightly
3-if it happens again try reinstalling windows
4-if it happens again i think 90% your hdd is saying goodbye

Seems like you've got a Hardware device error. It might be one of your PCI cards or one of your memory sticks. if you have 2 memory sticks you can test them by removing one of them at a time. If you remove one and the error stops then you know that stick was the problem. as for the PCI cards jut make sure the contacts are clean. Good luck.+

I agree, back up all your files and settings, if you use outlook back up your datefile there also.

Then just wipe your PC with the install disk, do a clean install.

It should resolve the problem as it is software not a hardware issue and it will rid you of all problems you have from any software downloads etc you may no longer need.

When bring it back up make sure you do all the windows updates.

Also look for AVG (www.grisoft.com) for free antivirus software.

If you rebuild every three to six months you should always have a good and fast processing PC with no crap on it.

In the interim, always back up and defragment regularly.

Yes that error message seems to mainly come up with hardware issues causing faults..mainly RAM,,open your case and check your RAM chips, make sure one hasnt become slightly loosed from its seat..OR you have a virus that is causing this incorrect volume information read...run a virus scan if u can..boot into SAFE mode and see if it does the same Error code then~~~

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

if you have more than one harddirve with windows on it it wont boot correctly, and 'd do two things, run a memory tester
www.memtest.org

and run a hardware diagnostic test from your harddrive maker

I think your drive is dying, but it could be memory....
