I have no doubt that I won't be able to convince you that they are very nice animals when they are tame. I don't particularly like wild ones as they bite. My daughter convinced me to get a pet one once. I had shivers just thinking about touching their tale. Anyway, I gave in and got one and initially, I would get a shiver every time it came near my neck. After a day, I got over it. And from then on I was in love. They only live for about 2 - 3 years. I got another one when it died.
They are great pets, as smart as a dog or cat, and love attention just as much as anyone or anything and very clever.
Did you know that in one of our days, they age 10 days. That is why the pro-create so fast. Because they're life is short.
If you can ever get past your fear of them, you will find that they are very nice animals. Tame ones that is. I never recommend trying to pet a wild one. They have very sharp teeth and you don't want to be on the end of an angry rodent.
Rats are related to guinea pigs and beavers. I now have a cat, so I can't have a rat anymore. But when my cat passes on into pussycat heaven, I will get another rat. Maybe even two next time. You can come over to my place and pet it if you like LOL.

I tried to overcome my fear of spiders by touching one and it tried to crawl on my hand and I ended up squishing it. I'd rather be creeped out by them than let them touch me.
