todays youths are not interested to read , what is the reason behind this ,give me in brief

Why need to read when you can find out all you need to know from the Internet or T.V.When I was a lad at school we had a satchel full of text books to cover the various subjects being taught.We had to read and understand various books by classic authors as part of our English literature lessons.One other factor was we did not have computers,play stations,I Pods or whatever so for our entertainment we visited the library each week to get two or three books to read.My grandchildren do not have any text books at all it seems. For their homework they research their answers from the net. How a child whose parents haven't got or can't afford a computer get on I don't know. It is getting to the stage where they have a desk top downstairs and each have a laptop in their bedrooms.Doesn't leave much time for reading does it?

internet tv video games kids being so involved in after school activities sometimes to fill every hour after school and all weekend theres only 24 hours in a day no wonder kids are burned out by the time they get to high school or college to develop a love of reading u must start when they are younger its like everything else in life its a skill that must b learned

I don't agree, my daughter who is 16 is an avid reader like me, so is my 7 year old. I do strongly believe that if the parents are readers then the kids are more likely to be as they learn the joy of books from their peers.

youth today do not have to use their imagination, they have video games and computers that do that. I think it is sad that reading is not used as an escape nowadays.

technology!! simple. my kids read so not all parents give in to there desires of the latest thing. But mostley coz of Technology

That's easy,TV,DVD s and other computer crap have taken over from the good old book i'm afraid...BUT,it's parents who allow it in the first place !!!

I think that would have to do with who is resiponsible for bringing them up: their parents. additionaly it's their company, that gives them ideas about how to pass their time.
