Gandhiji is misunderstood and gandhian way of living is mistaken by many politicians and common people. When Bharat was under British Rule, Gandhiji stood for non violence and a way that is easy without spending money. He has clearly stated that once Free India, the thoughts of National Freedoml Movement are to be put an end. New thoughts of Ruling the Free country to be encouraged and new education, industry and what not are to planned with Indian Thought only. That thing did not happend. Mistake has taken place. Gandhi became an ancestor and Nehru misleaded and Indira Gandhi, Rajeev, Priyanka, Rahul - all This type of Gandhian philosophy - power mongers have cropped up and other politicians followed them like sheep in a field. That is the reason even though they like Gandhi, cannot follow the Gandhian way of life because many are not moneyed people. Hope if politics is kept aside from the other things - there will be some development of Indian Society.

Actually in India what happens is that, of the great personalities which treart the others as a puppet and has much power, they i.e. the Indians keep them on their lashes. And the people like Gandhiji, who considered everybody equal, are not given weightage. Take the case of Amitabh Bacchan. What had he done so great than Mahatma Gandhi that he is considered not less than god. It is rightly said by you that poeple of India fail to recognise the true potentials and greatness of some "humans". This is the reason why the problem of brain-drain is increasing. They complain that there are lack of facilities in India. There is a jungle-raj in the country where nobody knows where they are moving, they fail to distinguish between good worse.

We only know a very little about Gandhiji. It is like how many people read and aware of their religious books. I have seen many people just argue on all negative points but internally they feel but they never express. so don't be carried away. Gandhiji can be set an example in todays life. Have you seen Lage Raho Muna Bhai? It is possible now also to follow him and this will continue forever. Everybody like the act of non- violence.

Supposedly, he divided up the country up pretty badly.
I think it's particularly painful for Sikhs. They live in Punjab, so they were really hard hit by partition. It caused much violence in that group.
Same goes for Indira + Golden Temple incident.
