An old wives tale is that it's bad luck to cut a child's hair before they are 1 year old. Your son is over that age, so according to that he's old enough now. Personally I got tired of my son's growing hair at 10 months.

There is no benefit other than he isn't going to look like a baby anymore. He is going to look like a "big boy". You can't put a boy's hair up in pigtails, so if it is getting in his eyes it is probably time to cut it. Take before and after and during pictures. Make sure you save some of the clippings just for a keepsake of his little baby hair.

Well, he needs a haircut the same time all other humans need haircuts... when his hair gets too long. The only reason to wait is to make the mom feel as if her little boy isn't really growing up as quickly as he is... which isn't true, so why wait? If he needs a haircut, and his hair is hanging in his eyes... you're just denying him reasonable personal hygiene and could be causing vision problems by not getting it cut... whether or not you're emotionaly ready, as a mom, to see him with a little boy hair cut.

I dunno... I've just always thought those mom's who stand around and wring their hands when their kids reach diffferent phases of childhood were really just focused on how it made THEM feel... rather than on the accomplishment itself.

Do it when you are ready. I have heard that sometimes those baby curls never come back so you may want to keep a lock of his hair. Be prepared he may look alot older once he has a short haircut. I remember crying and crying when my little boy got his first haircut. He looked 6 months older instantly. I think little boys are adorable with long hair but if its in his eyes and cant see, it may be time.... you could still leave it a little long if you wanted to.

Do it when you feel ready. My son was almost two before I got him a complete hair cut. I wasn't ready to cut it all so I did trim his bangs to keep them out of his eyes. I still wish I had waited even longer.

Edit
I would have liked to wait because once you cut their hair they aren't a baby anymore. They already grow so fast and it just speeds the process along.

Most people wait until the child is a year old and then they take them for a hair cut. So anytime would be great.

I'd take him now. Get a pair of clippers or something that buzzes and hold it to his ear and let him get used to the noise. When you take him ask if he can look at the clippers before they start. Make sure you go somewhere that is used to dealing with kids. Give him a treat afterwards. Get a lock of hair to keep for his baby book.

You take him when he needs to have it cut. It might damage his eyes if he constantly has it hanging over them. There is no age limit, some babies need there hair cut at 10 months while others need it doing at 3.

He's more than ready to have his hair cut. Take him to your salon, or if you have one, a local barbershop. They won't do any more to his hair than you want them too and he'll be able to see again...lol..lol. My son was 3 months when he got his first hair cut, that's how much, and how long his hair was. My daughters were 2 before they had enough hair to worry about.

yea, I would. I would try to find one of the fun salons with the chairs esp made for lil kids, they have one that looks like a firetruck, lion, school bus etc...kids love that. Just tell the hairdresser that its the baby first hair cut. and bring something for him to snack on too, so when he's done he get a lil snacky. Good Luck!
